About me - Isabel

Are you searching for a Diabetes Educator who truly understands the challenges of living with diabetes? Look no further! My journey with type 1 diabetes began at age 10 with a sudden and unexpected diagnosis. The doctor who diagnosed me also said that I would likely have a limb amputated one day, I could go blind, and it would be hard for me to have children! She gave us no helpful resources, no books to read, and no supportive guidance.

It’s this personal experience which fuels my dedication as a Diabetes Educator to provide the compassionate and effective care every individual with diabetes deserves.

Having navigated decades of finger pricks, injections (both with needles/vials and pens), and transitioning to an insulin pump to begin working as a Registered Nurse, I bring a unique perspective to diabetes education. I’ve personally managed the daily demands of blood glucose control and insulin delivery.

My early encounter with a dismissive medical professional inspired me to become the kind of Diabetes Educator I needed – someone who listens, understands and provides practical resources and support. I’m here to answer your questions clearly, offer guidance at any time, and acknowledge the constant impact diabetes has on your daily life and future aspirations. If you’re seeking a Diabetes Educator with genuine understanding and professional expertise, I’m here to help.

My qualifications

I have been a Registered Nurse since 2012, completing my Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 2014. I became a Credentialed Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association in September 2015, following 1,000 hours of practical experience.

Since 2015, I have been serving the Canberra Community as a private Diabetes Educator, collaborating with a network of doctors, allied health professionals and specialists to optimise diabetes care. In 2017, I established my private practice in Canberra, providing dedicated support to individuals striving for optimal health while living with diabetes.

Further advancing my expertise with a Masters Degree to become a Nurse Practitioner in 2024, I offer an expanded scope of practice, including the ability to prescribe medication and order pathology tests.

I am also a Certified Insulin Pump Trainer for all insulin pump brands available in Australia providing expert support for both initiation and ongoing management of this effective therapy. While only a small percentage of Australians currently utilise insulin pumps, my goal is to increase awareness and access to this technology, particularly for individuals living with Type 1 diabetes, to improve their management and overall quality of life.

While my primary practice is in Canberra, I am committed to reaching under-serviced regional areas and offer outreach clinics in locations such as Merimbula, Parkes and Wagga Wagga. If you believe there is a need for my services in your region of NSW, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am eager to provide expert diabetes care support to your community.
