About me - Bec
Hello, I’m Bec, and I’m a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) driven by experience, not just textbooks. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1992 when I was only two and a half years old. My life has been a deeply personal journey through the chaos of diabetes management – from long, unforgiving needles and precise insulin drawing to battling the terrifying reality of severe hypos and hallucinations. Diabetes didn’t just shape my childhood; at times, it haunted it.
Yet, here I am: living proof that life can be full, joyful, and deeply meaningful with diabetes as your passenger, not your driver. I use those memories and my lived experience – including having overcome my own mental health challenges – not as scars, but as fuel. I am fed up with the idea that our real-world experience, when it doesn’t match the textbook, makes us “non-compliant.”
This isn’t just clinical work to me; it’s personal. My clients trust me because I know the heavy mental and physical load they carry, and I understand what it’s like to feel like you’re failing when you’re truly doing everything right. My hardest beginnings led me to this most meaningful work, and I am here to help you turn your own chaos into clarity.
My qualifications
I am a Registered Nurse (RN) and a fully Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE), which provides me with the expert clinical foundation necessary for comprehensive diabetes care and education. Beyond my nursing qualifications, I also hold a Counselling Degree, which means I can also offer crucial mental and emotional support, helping clients navigate the significant psychological burden of managing a chronic disease.
I bring a wealth of life experience to my role, from my youngest years all the way through to where I am today. I am married with three children aged 10, 8, and 5, and in my spare time, I enjoy baking cakes and sewing. Most importantly, having lived with Type 1 Diabetes since the age of two and a half, all my client interactions are guided by genuine understanding and empathy.
